Mechanical

The School of Mechanical Engineering commenced functioning from the inception of the Institute in the year 1997 with an intake of 60 at undergraduate level. The Masters program in Machine Design was introduced in the year 2004 with an intake of 18. An industry collaborative PG program in CAD/CAM/CAE is introduced from the academic year 2011-12.

The School of Mechanical Engineering has well-qualified and experienced faculty drawn from academia like IITs, NITs, Government institutions and industry. The faculty have specializations in the areas of Design, Thermal, Production and Industrial engineering, i.e., the major areas of Mechanical Engineering. All the faculty possess the minimum qualification of post graduation. The faculty strength in the school of Mechanical Engineering is 33 comprising 6 professors, 8 Associate Professors and 19 Assistant Professors. The average experience of the faculty in the department is 12 years. Around 40 percent of the faculty in the department has been working with the institution right from its inception.

Majority of the faculty members are actively involved in research activities in the fields of their specialization. They have published a good number of research papers in International / National Journals and International / National Conferences. A DST and an AICTE funded projects worth of Rs.25 Lakhs are in progress by the department. 80 percent of the faculty are currently pursuing their Ph.D. programs through reputed universities of the country on part time basis.

The School attributes its success to the creative and innovative out look of its students. The School encourages students to participate in various Conferences / Symposiums and present technical papers. Besides this, students are encouraged to undergo Industrial Training programs to get hands on experience in the real process in core companies like Tata Motors, General Motors etc. School also provides additional inputs to improve their opportunities in advanced mechanical related softwares like CAD, Pro-e, and ANSYS.

On successful completion of the program students with guidance from their faculty go on to pursue higher studies or research at various Universities. The School of Mechanical Engineering is supported by the institute’s Training and Placement faculty, which provides assistance to the students to get training in different areas of Mechanical Engineering and secure jobs in different heavy engineering, manufacturing, service Industries & research institutes.

The School of Mechanical Engineering drawing upon its strength of highly qualified, well trained faculty, state of art infrastructure, innovative teaching methodology regular student counseling sessions plays the role of a catalyst in sharpening the skills of an average student into a confident, highly employable engineer who keeps abreast of the latest and rapidly changing technological trends in the market.
